FLINT TWP. — Tentative plans are in the works to honor former Township Treasurer Sandra S. Wright, who died in December 2016.
Current Treasurer Lisa Anderson brought a request to the township board to form a subcommittee to explore options for the tribute.
The cost of the event was the main concern raised by township board members. Trustee Barb Vert also questioned the need to form a subcommittee.
Anderson said she would be fine with not forming an official committee but still sought and obtained approval to host an exploratory meeting at 10 a.m. on August 8 at the township administration building.
In her request, Anderson noted that Wright was the township’s longest serving treasurer. After 20 years (five terms) of service, Wright retired in 2012 due to illness.
During her tenure, Wright served on numerous township boards including the Fire Retirement Board; Liquor Advisory Board; and 10 years as Director of the Water/Sewer Department. Other memberships included the Michigan Treasurer’s Association, Government Finance Officers Association and the Municipal Treasurers of the U.S. and Canada. She also achieved the designation of “Certified Municipal Finance Administrator.”
Wright received several state proclamations, employee recognitions, the Patsy Lou Award for Leadership and the C.D.B.A. Award for Distinction. She also was recognized as an outstanding employee with a disability by the Disability Network.
Anderson invited any residents, employees, and board members interested in helping to plan the Wright tribute, to attend the Aug. 8 planning meeting or to contact her at the township administration building on Dye Road.
Anderson said she would bring a report from the meeting on costs and other plans to an upcoming township board meeting.
