FLINT TWP. — Firefighters have ignited a fire they have no interest in extinguishing.
It is their Facebook Page which has racked up about 800 likes in about two weeks, said assistant fire chief Mike Burkley.
“It went like wildfire,’’ he said of interest shown in the page which was set up a few years ago but is now being actively used to promote fire safety and other department interests.
Recent postings included safety tips for grilling and using fireworks. Information is also provided about how eligible homeowner can obtain free carbon monoxide and smoke detectors.
A link is provided for anyone interested in applying to become an on-call firefighter.
Burkley said information will be posted soon about plans to hire up to three full-time firefighters.
With job requirements recently approved by the Civil Service Commission, Burkley said he expects to post the job openings in about a week. It will be a 30-day application period followed by a few months of testing and other due process before the new hires are chosen and brought on board.
