UM-Flint to bring [IN] on the Road Entrepreneurship Bootcamp and Pitch Competition to Grand Blanc

GRAND BLANC — The University of Michigan-Flint’s Office of Outreach is bringing one of its signature programs, the [IN] on the Road business bootcamp, and a business pitch competition to Grand Blanc.

This is part of the larger project coming to the City of Grand Blanc – the pop-up business park on Grand Blanc Road, which is being supported by a grant from The Harding Foundation.

For over ten years, UM-Flint’s Office of Outreach has provided business workshops, mentoring, and business counseling at the Innovation Incubator, or [IN] as it is known, located on the UM-Flint campus. In 2016, UM-Flint began offering IN on the Road, a workshop series that teaches the essentials of running a business, in convenient locations around Flint.

Through funding from The Harding Foundation, [IN] on the Road is now coming to Grand Blanc McFarlen library this October. The three-part series will be held from 5-8 p.m. on Oct. 4, 11, and 25.

Through this program, community members can take advantage of an intensive training in starting a business or non-profit at no cost to the participant. The bootcamp sessions will culminate in a pitch competition on Nov. 8 at Grand Blanc City Hall. The grand prize winner will be awarded one season free rent in Grand Blanc’s new pop-up retail park.

The [IN] on the Road program will include two opportunities for entrepreneurs to participate:

• A 3-part workshop series that will teach participants the nuts and bolts of starting a business, including:

• Vetting your big idea

• Customer discovery

• Marketing techniques and considerations

• Financial management

• Establishing the business

• Pop-Up Retail

• Information about the City of Grand Blanc’s new pop-up business park

Sessions are taught by UM-Flint faculty, staff, and local business owners. City of Grand Blanc officials will be present at the final session to provide details about the pop-up business park project.

There is no cost to attend, thanks to support from The Harding Foundation.
