LAPEER — The View Newspaper Group, publisher of The County Press in Lapeer County, and The Flint Township View here in Genesee County, as well as 10 other newspapers in Genesee, Huron, Sanilac and Saginaw counties, won 54 awards in the 2014 Michigan Press Association’s Better Newspaper Contest.
The accumulative work and awards bestowed on our journalists and graphic design artists are a reflection of our commitment to provide outstanding editorial and advertising content for our readers, businesses and the communities we serve.
The awards are announced to coincide with National Newspaper Week (Oct. 5-11) that celebrates the importance of newspapers, and we believe enhance the vitality of the communities we serve.
Members of the Wisconsin Newspaper Association reviewed our entries and those of 119 Michigan newspapers, and issued 28 awards to the company’s graphic design department for its work on advertisements and special sections within our newspapers while the editorial staff earned 26 awards. First-place awards included news and sports coverage, design and look of the newspaper, column writing and photography.
In the Genesee County papers, Paula K. Schmidt of The Grand Blanc View won third place for News Photograph; Lania Rocha of The Swartz Creek View won third place for Best Headline; and Jeanne Mickle won Best Special Section in The Grand Blanc View.
