Voters overwhelmingly support Animal Control millage

*UPDATED*

GENESEE COUNTY — Genesee County taxpayers will continue to support Genesee County Animal Control for at least another seven years.

The Aug. 4 primary ballot included a request for a 0.1994 property tax renewal to fund operations at the animal shelter located in Flint Township.

The final tally was 61,475 votes in favor of the renewal to 25,119 opposed.

The millage will cost the owner of a $100,000 home less than $10 per year and will generate more than $1.8 million in the first year of the levy.

Revenues will supplement and support operations and modernization at the no-kill shelter.

The millage replaces a 2-mil levy that voters approved in 2014 and which expires after the 2020 tax collection.

Additional funding comes from the county’s general fund.
