FLUSHING — Flushing residents can show support for local police with the return of the We Back the Badge Rally.
We Back the Badge, a patriotic/law enforcement appreciation event that debuted last August in Flushing, will be held tomorrow evening from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Riverview Park Bandshell, one block south of Main Street on Cherry Street.
The program will start at 5:30 p.m. with an invocation, the national anthem, the Pledge of Allegiance and a patriotic song. Speakers will include retired Flint Bishop International Airport police officer Jeff Neville and State Rep. Mike Mueller of Linden, who is a retired Genesee County Sheriff’s deputy.
A ½ mile march will then begin around 6:15 p.m. or 6:30 p.m. through the park and downtown Flushing.
Spectators are encouraged to wear patriotic colors and bring an American flag.
“Our goal is to show that we’re behind our police force and that we love their dedication to the community,” said Jim Schultz, co-chair of this year’s We Back the Badge Rally.
