UPDATED: Friday, Dec. 13, 2019, 10:15 p.m. — FLINT TWP. — Carman-Ainsworth High School was put into lock down this evening when a weapon’s incident took place around halftime of the boys’ varsity game against Grand Blanc.
Details were sketchy late Friday and the Flint Township Police Department did not immediately release any information. According to reports, witnesses said a young male suspect showed a handgun in the bleachers at the game, causing students to run from the student section at the game.
Witnesses reported that police chased the suspect across the basketball court and apprehended him shortly thereafter, taking him from the scene in handcuffs.
People were evacuated and the school was surrounded by police officers, reportedly armed with assault rifles while the building was on lockdown.
This is the second time this year there has been an incident like this at a Carman-Ainsworth High School during a sporting event. There was a shooting in June at CAHS and a 15-year-old was injured. Several people were arrested and face charges in relation to the incident.
The boys’ game will reportedly be made up in January under a closed-gym situation. See our Thursday print edition for an update on the incident.
