GENESEE COUNTY – Friday, April 25 is Wear Blue Day is to raise awareness and gain support for preventing child abuse by inspiring everyone to wear blue- one of the last of monthlong events during the observance of Child Abuse Prevention Month. Throughout April, Paint Our Town Blue organizers encouraged everyone to show their support by putting blue ribbons or bows on your doors, car antenna or mail box; changing outside lights to blue bulbs, wearing wear a blue ribbon or setting up a pinwheel garden in the yard like this one displayed by Health Alliance Plan (HAP) at Linden and Corunna Roads. Signifying the free spirit of a happy childhood, the pinwheel is the symbol of the Prevent Child Abuse America Pinwheels for Prevention national campaign. Also, April 30 has been designated Blue Sunday, when local churches will say a prayer for victims of abuse and neglect and display information about child deaths locally and nationally.
