FLINT TWP. — Applications are being accepted until March 31 by the West Flint Business Association for its 2018 community-wide scholarship program.
Each year the group awards three $1.500 scholarships to a high school student, an adult learner and a vocational education student.
The WFBA High School Community Service Scholarship is awarded to a high school senior to assist with plans to attend college. The purpose is to recognize individuals who can demonstrate exceptional achievement and leadership skills through involvement in their respective school and community. Recipients must be attending a high school and provide proof of a minimum 10 hours of community service. Although a cumulative GPA of 2.5 is required, it is only one factor in the determination of the winner. The award is sponsored by Sharon Withey of Diversified Tax Service. and Abed Khirfan of Khirfan Financial Inc.
The WFBA Adult Learner Scholarship is awarded to a person who currently is in the work force and wanting to attend college to improve their quality of life. Applicants must have at minimum a high school diploma or equivalent at the time of application and are not currently attending high school. Applicants must also be enrolled, or show proof of acceptance, at a university, college or trade school. If awarded a scholarship, the recipient must take a minimum of six (6) credit hours or nine (9) term hours per semester/term. The scholarship is being sponsored by Jim Miller of Re/Max.
The WFBA Vocational Education Scholarship is for a student who wants to continue vocational education studies at a post-secondary institution. Applicants must have a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher. They must provide written proof of acceptance as a student at a college, university or trade school that is properly accredited before funds will be released. The scholarship is sponsored by Curbco and the Swartz Creek Chamber of Commerce.
