GRAND BLANC — Whaley Children’s Center will host the 28th Annual Whaley Golf Classic presented by Client Financial Services on Sept. 9 at Warwick Hills Golf and Country Club.
The event is co-hosted George Blaha, voice of the Detroit Pistons, and Mateen Cleaves, Flint native and former Michigan State University basketball star.
In addition to the 36 team outing at one of Michigan’s premier courses, Blaha and Cleaves will bring along many of their celebrity friends to take part in the day’s activities.
Golfers will have the chance to meet all the celebrity guests during play as well as after the outing at the awards dinner and live and silent auctions. Live and silent auction items currently include four lower-bowl seats to see the Detroit Pistons play the Miami Heat in the upcoming season, sheet music autographed by Justin Bieber, autographed photos of Ted Williams and Jack Nicklaus as well as a few priceless, one-of-a-kind experiences.
“We are pleased with the number of responses we’ve already had from celebrities identifying with our cause and wanting to do their part in spreading the mission of our Center,” said Whaley Children’s Center’s Director of Development Katrina Khouri. “Their presence at the event will make this an exceptionally fun and memorable day.”
With the help of many community volunteers, Whaley Special Events Coordinator DeAndra McCain has been able to make many enhancements to this year’s event. “The entertainment we will be providing for our guests is going to be fantastic this year,” said McCain. “We will be having live music, a massage therapist and many other extras our golfers will be pleased with.”
