Golden Memories Automobile Gathering at Sloan Museum

Sept. 18

Time: 10 a.m.-4 p.m.

A very special event exclusively for original or authentically restored vehicles produced in 1961 or earlier. The Golden Memories Automobile Gathering is sponsored by Friends of Sloan*Longway, making it free to exhibitors and attendees. We welcome all authentic and original automobiles 1961 and prior. No visual modifications are allowed.

Registration takes place between 9 a.m. and noon the day of the event. Driver and one passenger will receive free admission to the show grounds, Sloan Museum, the Buick Automotive Gallery and 10 percent off all Sloan Museum Store purchases.

This event is non-competitive, so there will be no judging, just a relaxing day with friends and fellow car enthusiasts, who love well preserved and restored automobiles. Lottery drawing for the dash plaque vehicle of the 2012 show. Special recognition to vehicles celebrating 50, 75 and 100 year anniversaries.

Robots: The Interactive Exhibition Member Party The exhibit opens at noon on Sept. 24 but if you are an Annual Pass Holder Club Member or a Friend of Sloan*Longway, you get to see it first. Join Rodney Copperbottom on Sept. 23 for a Sneak Peek party of Sloan Museum’s NEW exhibition-Robots: The Interactive Exhibition. The party starts at 6 p.m. We’ll have snacks and super fun hands on activities for the whole family to enjoy. Be among the first to see this interactive and exciting exhibit. Robots: The Interactive Exhibition

Based on the 20th Century Fox animated feature, Robots depicts a world populated entirely by mechanical beings, including genius inventor Rodney Copperbottom and his friends, the Rusties, who seek to make the world a better place through innovation and determination.

The amazing characters from 20th Century Fox movie Robots will introduce visitors to the wonderful, real world of robotics — an exciting and ever-expanding field of science. Robots are becoming more and more a part of our lives. Here visitors will learn how that is happening and how they might become part of the excitement. Sunday Drive at Buick Automotive Gallery

Arrive at 9:30 a.m., leave at 10 a.m. from Buick Gallery

Fee: $25 per vehicle, driver and one passenger. $10 charge for each additional passenger. After 9/15, additional charges will apply. Limited to 30 vehicles. The fourth annual Sunday Drive is open to all. No need to drive an antique or vintage car. Light refreshments, maps will be provided. Convenient automobile trailer parking. This year we will head north to Bay City to tour one of the stately mansions that lumber barons built during the 1880s. There will also be a stop for lunch, which will be on your own. Party of the Century Fundraiser for Sloan*Longway

Celebrate Chevrolet’s 100th Anniversary with The Party of the Century on 11-11-11 at Riverfront Banquet Center in downtown Flint. Presented by the Friends of Sloan*Longway, the proceeds will support Sloan Museum and Longway Planetarium in preserving Flint’s automotive heritage, and providing history and science education through programs to families and youth through exhibits, outreach, field trips and family programming. The Planet Patrol: Solar System Stakeout at Longway Planetarium

Saturdays at 12:30 and 3:30 p.m. and Sept. 25 at 12:30 & 3:30 p.m.

Join planetary investigator, Sam Snork, and his assistant, Elmo, as they cruise for clues, look for leads, and use the latest in crime-solving equipment to investigate the planets in our Solar System. Sam and Elmo are two aliens who may lose their job if they can’t find the source of the Chin-Cee knife commercial that interrupted their boss’ favorite television program. After bouncing from planet to planet, these two galactic gumshoes finally reach Earth where they discover an entire world of intriguing possibilities. Recommended for children 6 and older. — G.G.
