ALLEN PARK — Carman-Ainsworth wrestlers came within a point of sweeping the Allen Park Team Tournament last Saturday, going 4-1 and losing to Dearborn Fordson, 39-38, in the championship final.
Six Cavaliers went 5-0—Dward Kue at 103 pounds, Wes Cummings at 112, Darien Vaughn at 125, Shaq Polacek at 135, Jake Weissend at 145 and Jerron Thomas at 171.
The Cavs beat the Detroit Catholic Central B team for the second time this year, 49-21. They also drilled Warren Summit Academy, 56-18, Monroe Catholic Central, 46-24, and Gibraltar Carlson, 52-24, to earn the title showdown with Fordson.
On Jan. 25, Carman-Ainsworth wrestled a double dual at Caro, beating Bridgeport, 57-12, and losing to the host Tigers, 47-27. Going 2-0 for the Cavs were Vaughn at 130, Polacek at 135, Weissend at 145, Demonte Blue at 152 and Tae Pendleton at 189.
Carman-Ainsworth wrestled in a quadrangular last night at Birch Run, where Weissend was going for his 200th career victory. The Cavs will be in the final Big Nine Conference tournament Friday at Flushing.
