FENTON — YMCA Camp Copneconic is looking for volunteers to help clean-up camp and ready the grounds for the summer season.
Every year, more than 4,000 youth will attend a day or overnight camp at the 700 acre camp in Fenton.
This year’s volunteer day is especially important as the camp was not open for the 2020 season due to the COVID pandemic and much work remains to get the camp ready for the 2021 season.
“We have a year’s worth of growth on the trails and lots of leaves and sticks to be cleaned out of flower beds,” said Executive Director Brandon Dreffs. “We know many youths were heartbroken when camp did not open in 2020. They deserve Copneconic to look its best after the year they have had!”
On May 8, from 8 a.m.–1 p.m., volunteers are needed to help rake, weed, paint, and complete light construction projects on the grounds of Camp Copneconic.
Families and adults are welcome to participate although youth must be accompanied by an adult 18 years or older. All volunteers receive a t-shirt and lunch.
Contact Brandon Dreffs at 810-629-9622 or brandond@flintymca.org to sign-up. Service groups are welcome and encouraged. — G.G.
