FLINT — Young People’s Ballet Theatre presents Beauty and the Beast, the timeless story of a courageous girl, a magical rose, and the power of true love. The youth ballet company will be performing at the University of Michigan-Flint Theatre, Feb. 26-March 1. The two act ballet was created by Attila Mosolygo for the Junior Company at the Grand Rapids Ballet in 2014, and now he has wonderfully restated it for Young People’s Ballet Theatre. Returning guest artists Alan Obuzor, from Texture Contemporary Ballet in Pittsburgh, and Jack Lennon, from Grand Rapids Ballet, will be performing the roles of the Beast and Avenant.
A highlight of the ballet will be the enchanted objects of the castle coming to life and dancing for Belle. The spectacular costumes transform everyday objects into fanciful characters: the teapot and teacups, the measuring cups, salt and pepper, and more. The energetic choreography will have the audience dancing in their seats.
This year Young People’s Ballet Theatre will be hosting 400 students from the Youth Quest program in Flint for the Friday performance. Made possible through the generous support of corporate sponsors to YPBT’s
