FLINT TWP. — Lorenzo Murphy, famously known as “Zo The Motivator,” came to town last Saturday to help distribute thousands of cases of water to Flint area residents.
In partnership with Voltron Entertainment, Higherark Creative, and Greater Zion, Murphy’s “Flint Care Giveaway” was held at Carman-Ainsworth High School, 1300 North Linden Road. Murphy spoke with students and helped distribute a truckload of bottled water purchased from Sam’s Club.
Prior to his arrival, Murphy set up a GoFundMe page which to date has raised about $1,250.
“Don’t just talk about the change you want to see; be the change you want to see!” he wrote in the GoFundMe appeal. “Flint needs our help — your help, my help! And together we’re going to aid them during this time of need!
“I’m sure you’ve seen the news lately or have heard about the water in Flint, MI, that’s causing lead poisoning and legionnaires disease. Water is a basic necessity and people shouldn’t get sick or be afraid to drink water or take a bath to clean themselves. … We all are blessed enough not to have to worry about this so I want to pass along the blessing to someone else. We could be the residents of Flint. In this situation I would want someone to care about me!”
Murphy joined a growing list of celebrities who in recent weeks have visited Flint or contributed to efforts to aid in clear water relief.
Murphy is a student at Morehouse College in Atlanta, GA. Born in Compton, California, he draws from his experiences to deliver messages to inspire, educate, and empower youth. Zo The Motivator takes his message of personal, entrepreneurial, and leadership growth to hundreds of schools, organizations, corporations and conventions around the country. He has been featured on Huffington Post, TV One’s News One, Fox, Vibe Magazine, Black Enterprise and other entities.
